Successful Installation of the First Super Jumbo Mobile Tower Crane at Abu Dhabi Airport Midfield Terminal Building Project

The first Super Jumbo Mobile Tower Crane (MTC2) at Abu Dhabi Airport Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) Project has been successfully installed recently. There was a joint inspection conducted by the main contractor TCA JV, Equipment Department, the manufacturer ZOOMLION and MTB Project Team and was highly praised by the TCAJV for meeting the high standard quality work and safety requirement.

The mobile tower crane model D1100-63 which is the largest traveling mobile tower crane ever used in the Middle East. Tower crane with working radius of 80m and the maximum load moment is 1100 ton-m. The main technical performance indicators have reached international advanced level, in line with European FEM (European Material Handling Machinery Association) standards. The parts of MTC2 are more than 1100 units and pins are more than 3000 pieces, which is really a JUMBO TOWER CRANE in the tower crane family. The overall performance in the world ranked first in the tower crane of the same model.

As the parts of the MTC2 are very heavy, it has to be dismantled into pieces and shipped from Mainland China to MTB project in terms of loading and transporting. The installation team had to assemble them into basic functional units, loaded it onto the trailer and shipped to the job site.

The installation of the MTC2 is required high technical standard, heavy workload, long installation period, together with smooth site coordination and good safety management. The successful installation laid a solid foundation for the upcoming related installation works.
